SPECIAL EVENT SECURITY

HIGH PROFILE EVENT:
Gubernatorial debate

Situation: In September 2019, the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication’s Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs hosted Louisiana’s first 2019 gubernatorial debate between Gov. John Bel Edwards and Republican challengers Ralph Abraham and Eddie Rispone. Taking place in LSU’s 1200-seat Student Union Theatre, the event required security to supplement the governor’s state police guard.

Solution: NOLA Protection Group provided two full-service checkpoints and interior security for the debate. All guests were screened, and NOLA Protection Group monitored the crowd during the event.

NEIGHBORHOOD SECURITY GUARD SERVICE

FLEXIBLE BUDGETING:
Neighborhood patrol

Situation: When an uptown neighborhood received funding for security measures, they found they couldn’t afford round-the-clock patrol service. As a result, they had no security patrolling the neighborhood.

Solution: NOLA Protection Group worked with the client to create a schedule that served the needs of the neighborhood by varying times and days of patrols to get coverage at a fee they could afford. The lack of predictability of the schedule prevents potential security challenges.

COMMERCIAL SECURITY GUARD SERVICE

SPECIAL NEEDS:
Healthcare security

Situation: The 2020 pandemic stretched staff and resources as cases overwhelmed the healthcare industry. Increased work demands, due to thousands of patients, and decreased staff availability, due to extensive overtime and quarantine after exposure, created a need for supplemental in-house security forces.

Solution: NOLA Protection Group has worked with more than 22 hospitals and healthcare facilities across Baton Rouge, Houma, Slidell, Luling, Covington, St. Tammany and New Orleans since March 2020. We provided assistance in various capacities, including temperature checks, access control through credential verification, supply security, patient transport and parking lot support for outdoor testing sites. We were able to shift our security professionals from special events, which had been canceled, to healthcare security as needed.

SPECIAL EVENT SECURITY

WIDESPREAD EVENT:
Gretna Heritage Festival

Situation: Gretna Heritage Festival has, for 25 years, promoted and supported businesses and organizations. The event, which covers 25 city blocks, showcases national musical acts on five stages, along with arts and crafts, rides, car shows and food. More than 100,000 visitors attend the three-day festival.

Solution: In 2019, NOLA Protection Group worked with the Gretna police department to develop a plan to secure the entrances to the festival. The unique challenge of determining access across open neighborhoods was met by setting up and manning four checkpoints.

SPECIAL EVENT SECURITY

CROWD CONTROL:
BUKU Music + Art Project

Situation: An urban music festival, BUKU includes industrial art installations, food vendors and “pop-up” performances on-site at Mardi Gras World on the New Orleans waterfront.

Solution: Since 2014, NOLA Protection Group has worked with festival promoters to keep the festival’s daily crowd of 25,000 safe during each day of the weekend-long event. Setting up 25 metal detectors and providing 100 security professionals, NOLA Protection Group oversees security for those checkpoints and handles access control.

NEIGHBORHOOD SECURITY GUARD SERVICE

HI-TECH SECURITY:
A gated community’s unique needs

Situation: A premiere gated community in the greater New Orleans area is home to a large number of professional athletes, creating a need for enhanced security and access control.

Solution: NOLA Protection Group has tailored a security protocol for this neighborhood. Our professionals staff the guard booth at the entrance to the community, maintaining access control for the residents. Guests must be sent QR codes in advance to gain access. All drivers’ licenses are scanned and recorded, while cameras monitor the entrance.

FILM & TELEVISION SET SECURITY

PERSONAL SECURITY:
Film locations

Situation: New Orleans has branded itself “Hollywood South,” as a result of enticing film and television productions to work in the community. The industry has added more than $1 billion to the city’s economy since 2010. In most years more than a dozen productions are filming around town.

One of the reasons New Orleans is such a popular production site is our diversity of architecture, natural backdrops and locations. Information about filming sites is readily available, with the now-familiar yellow signs indicating locations. And many locations are in open neighborhoods and city streets, rather than in an enclosed film studio, and easily accessible to those interested in seeing celebrities.

Solution: NOLA Protection Group has provided personal on-location security for more than 100 productions dating back to Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” through present-day “NCIS: New Orleans.” We are able to supply set security and personal protection coverage for talent and locations all over south Louisiana.

SPECIAL EVENT SECURITY

OUTDOOR EVENT:
Family Gras

Situation: Family Gras, held each year in Metairie since 2007 on the weekend before Fat Tuesday, is a festival of music, food and family activities in conjunction with Jefferson Parish Carnival parades. Crowds surpass 80,000 during the three days. In 2019 Family Gras moved up Veterans Boulevard from Lakeside Shopping Center to Clearview Mall.

Solution: Organizers decided to implement a checkpoint for festivalgoers. NOLA Protection Group worked with leadership at Family Gras and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to design and implement two checkpoints to screen patrons for the free event.

SPECIAL EVENT SECURITY

LARGE EVENT:
Essence Festival

Situation: Since 1995 Essence Festival of Culture has brought together musical acts, cultural leaders and inspirational speakers for more than 10 days of concerts, presentations and activities. It is considered the largest African-American culture and music event in the country. In 2017, as many events increased security after shootings at public events, Essence organizers decided to implement security checkpoints at the festival’s events in the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Solution: NOLA Protection Group collaborated with the vice president of corporate security at TIME Inc. to develop a plan for checkpoints, identifying the number of lanes needed to process access based on anticipated crowd size and creating the layout for placement of manned entrance checkpoints. Security professionals staffed the checkpoints for three days and screened more than 100,000 festivalgoers.

SPECIAL EVENT SECURITY

THE BIG GAME:
2020 National Championship

Situation: The 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship was held Jan. 13, 2020, in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, pitting #1 LSU against #3 Clemson. In addition to the game itself, with 76,000 in attendance, the three days prior to the game involved multiple fan engagement activities, including pep rallies, fun runs and music concerts.

Solution: In conjunction with the head of security for the CFP, NOLA Protection Group worked to fill a variety of needs across the city throughout the week of the game. We worked more than 7500 hours without major incidents during the course of the week. We debuted our mobile command center as the hub for our security operations, which included:

  • Providing security for both teams at their hotels
  • Assisting ESPN and CFP with security for private parties on the Riverboat Louis Armstrong
  • Setting up and staffing metal detectors for game-related events at Woldenberg Park
  • Coordinating full-service checkpoints at Fan Central at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center each day • providing security for a block party at Walk-On’s Sports Bar
  • Providing security for national media at the official media hotel
  • Handling access with a full-service metal detector and X-ray checkpoints for Media Day, as well as interior security
  • Providing security for the Taste of the Championship fundraising food event
  • Supplying professional security personnel to support the game itself inside the Superdome

COMMERCIAL SECURITY GUARD SERVICE

EMPLOYEE PEACE OF MIND:
Construction sites

Situation: As COVID-19 shut down many businesses, sending employees home to work, those businesses deemed essential continued to work on-site but faced an increased need for safety and security precautions. The construction industry was deemed an essential service; sites were not shut down, and employees continued to show up in person. As the number of coronavirus cases climbed, no-show rates increased by more than 20% as employees became ill or were afraid to go to work.

Solution: NOLA Protection Group worked with local companies across nine construction projects – including Amazon’s new distribution center, a 130,000-square-foot building – to set up on-site temperature checks. Construction center attendance went back up as employees felt safe to be on the worksite.

UNIQUE NEEDS:
Hotel security

Situation: New Orleans is a top tourism destination; as such, there are more than 14,000 hotel rooms in the city. The coronavirus pandemic has shut down or reduced capacity at most hotels. Reduced travel has also reduced demand for hotel rooms, including meeting facilities. However, properties need security even without guests; security staff are reduced due to furloughs and quarantine.

In August, Hurricane Laura sent Lake Charles-area evacuees to New Orleans. They were housed in 33 hotels across the city, creating a need for enhanced security in facilities with reduced security forces.

Solution: NOLA Protection Group has, over the last few years, worked at every major hotel in downtown New Orleans, traditionally providing security for meeting spaces and staffing access control points for attendees of meetings, activities and sporting events. During 2020, we’ve provided thousands of contract hours of hotel security for hotels facing new security challenges, while reluctant to restaff at full force as health conditions remain questionable. Our services include code of conduct enforcement, safety monitoring, and quality-of-life issues presented by unique situations like long-term occupancy by displaced persons.
